Description
None of these experiences counted for ThinkAchieve points but I still think they were instrumental for my learning beyond the classroom at UTC.
International Orientation Leader (Fall 2018 & Spring 2019)
I was honored to be selected to become an International Orientation Leader for two semesters. I was able to meet people from all over the world and help acclimate them to life at UTC. I learned more about how to be an effective leader and also about other cultures from around the world. My eyes were opened to all of the unique perspectives of international students and I loved being able to help them adjust to their new location. I hope to someday travel to all of the different home countries of the people I met.
Pre-Medical Society (Fall 2016 - Spring 2019)
I have been a member of the Pre-Med Society ever since I transferred to UTC in the Fall of 2016. I also was elected to serve as the secretary during my junior year and I have been the vice-president and president during my senior year. I have been able to plan events like group volunteer trips and also Q&A's with current medical students. It is amazing to be able to share my knowledge and help lead others to getting accepted into medical school.
Tri-Beta (Spring 2018 - Spring 2019)
I started out as a member of Tri-Beta, the biological honor society on campus, and then was elected to be the vice-president. I have been able to work with other members of the executive team to plan events like nature walks and selling T-shirts. I love science and I am happy that I have been able to be a leader spreading the passion of Biology to others outside of the classroom.

Erlanger Volunteer Surgical Second Assist (Spring 2018)
As a volunteer surgical second assist, I was trained in how to scrub in and also in HIPPA guidelines. I then assisted surgeons in the operating rooms at Erlanger Hospital. I was able to perform various tasks like holding a retractor during a hip replacement, holding the camera during an endoscopic gallbladder removal, and even helping stitch up a knee. I have never been in an experience where I actually felt as if I was performing the functions I may one day be doing as a doctor. I was able to learn so much about anatomy and the surgical process by actually being in the operating rooms. I would not trade this experience for anything else.
